Promising start of a possible series
This is the latest in the cosy mystery movies that Hallmark specialises in. As usual, it is set in a beautiful, picturesque American small town, although filmed in Canada. Jewel is the winsome lead who has a property restoration and renovation company. When one of her neighbours is found dead, she suspects foul play. There is a reason that she is averse to seeking hep from the police which is revealed later in the story. Luckily, a famed true crime writer, Colin Ferguson, has just arrived and is her latest client, and is willing to assist in her snooping. Their relationship is warm and fun, with hints it could develop into romance in the future. The mystery itself is reasonably involving even if the culprit is guessable long before the denouement, and the details are well laid out. A nice touch is that Jewel uses her skills and observations learned in the fixing-up business to uncover a hidden treasure and then to trap the killer. This is a promising beginning and should be a welcome addition to the ongoing amateur lady sleuth series.
love these shows and the cast
So hoping they are planning on more fixer upper movies with Jewel and Colin Fergeson. Stories are good and I like the construction girl idea. I know some people aren't impressed with story line, however I like the face its easy going. Makes for relaxing hours of entertainment. Much needed in today's world. Of course the suggested romantic interest the two seem to have for each other makes great to me. I am so hoping they continue this series and hope you can let me know if more are planned.
Jewel (Kilcher) is the 60 million dollar woman
If the audience keeps in mind that this film was made especially for television and is not a Hollywood blockbuster with an unlimited budget, I can candidly say that "Framed For Murder: A Fixer Upper Mystery" is well worth the price of admission compared to so many big Hollywood flops. Lead actress/singer Jewel Kilcher plays a building contractor (yeah guys she renovates homes, and changes flat tires for men) named Shannon Hughes who discovers the dead body of her close friend Jesse Hennessey, (Ken Tremblett) in his home. Jesse was a deep sea treasure hunter and it becomes evident quickly that there is someone who wants one of Jesse's found treasures enough to kill for it. The police initially say Jesse's death was an accident and not a homicide. Case closed. Or is it? So Shannon (Jewel) who is distraught over the sudden death of her close friend Jesse decides to solve this murder mystery with or without the local police's assistance. Shannon has a new tenant living in her studio apartment, a writer named Mac Sullivan (Colin Ferguson) who Shannon has just signed a contract with to renovate Mac's historical mansion. These two romantics Shannon and Mac, have very good on screen chemistry and they team up to try and solve the mystery. But eh, Shannon (Jewel) is easy on the eyes so who wouldn't have good on screen chemistry with her? She also sings professionally with a voice of an angel. (Her hit songs included "Hands", "Who Will Save Your Soul", and "Foolish Games" to name but a few.) The movie moves along at a good and easy pace with a number of suspects that will keep you guessing. I enjoyed it a lot more than many of the big budget Hollywood releases and I hope Jewel keeps making more of these family themed entertaining films. I give it a solid 8 out of 10 rating
Surprisingly Good Performance from Jewel
I was pleasantly surprised by the acting abilities of Jewel. I thought she held her own with the professionals. This is another of those cozy pleasant little mysteries with amateur sleuths that have come out in the last year or so. I have enjoyed every single one and eagerly look for new titles. The Fixer-Upper series should be every bit as entertaining as the other series have been,
Hallmark hit the nail on the head with this cozy!
I was delighted with this movie. First of all the G rating, how rare these days to see that! Then the cozy format, it was done perfectly. It had an interesting and inventive plot, well acted characters, lovely interiors, gorgeous scenery, suspense, a little action, and the special skills of our heroine were the ones that solved the mystery. Agatha Christie couldn't have done it better. Very enjoyable, fun, engaging and relaxing. I hope to see all the movies in this series. Bravo, Hallmark, you hit the nail on the head! (A little fixer upper joke there).????
